While gaming hardware for a PC that supports the newest games will always be expensive (so are the games initally) the pace is fast and after a year or so not only is that hardware cheaper, so are the games. Many people are willing to pick up a game long after the debut.

Don't misconstrue, there is still a viable high-end market for current games that take the top hardware. There will probably always be one. Not everyone buys a Ferrari...
